Do you want to learn Polish in Krakow Poland? Here is my 2 cents. I teach English and study Polish in Krakow, Poland. Krakow is a Mecca for language learning. I would estimate there are 100 language schools in Krakow. Further there are about 120,000 students who are more than willing to tutor. Prices range from 10 pln an hour for a cheap tutor to 140 pln an hour at a language school. I believe there is not necessary correlation between price and quality for Polish language learning. I would not pay more than 25 pln for a Polish tutor, why pay more? Its just inflated prices to take advantage of you. Also many people will try to trade you Polish for English. This never made sense for me because if I could get a Polish tutor for 10 pln and teach for 60 pln English it does not make economic sense, plus, the teacher student dynamics are different. If you are coming for a week or two a language school is a option, for a semester something like Jagiellonian University.
If you are a back packer or staying for a longer period, I prefer a Polish tutor, because they are generally cheaper and full of energy, while teaches are sometimes over worked, although they do know how to teach better. You can try a few students until you get a style and person you like. Most male students prefer female teachers and visa versa. Polish is a great language. I have a free grammar site http://www.Polishgrammar.com and will have a learning Polish with music and brainwaves Http://www.mp3languagelearning.com and of course a program http://www.claritaslux.com I think if you want to start with Polish learn the words first. These are hard enough. The learn the grammar. The grammar is so different that you will get stuck in that black hole if you do not know the vocabulary first.
