Word of the day - to learn a foreign language

Word of the day to learn a foreign language

The best place for a word of the day note card for me is front of the computer. Other people might choose the bathroom mirror or the sofa in front of the TV. A word of the day place is great if its a place where you relax and do not even thinking of learning. The word is just there. I use note cards and make a simple flash card for learning foreign language words.

Is a word of the day effectiveto learn a foreign language

Yes -a word of the day is effective, just do the math. I had a person say three years ago that it was a waste of time because you only learn one day. But over 3 years that is 1,000 words in a foreign language, and you know how time flies. Even if word of a day does not teach a lot of foreign language words it does teach some. Every time you learn a new word in a foreign language you say to yourself ‘how could I have done without that word’.

Word of the day - psychology of learning a foreign language

Most of learning a foreign language is attitude. If you tell yourself you will learn 200 words a day, this is great if you can do it, but usually people set goals that are too high and become frustrated when trying to maintain that level of foreign language word learning. I recommend to set goals low, which you will exceed. Then this will build your confidence and you will get in the habit of exceeding your goals everyday. This strengthening of your self confidence is key to learn a foreign language, as everyone, and I mean everyone says ‘I do not have the gift of language learning‘; after years of teaching languages to 1,000s of students, I have not meet anyone with a so called ‘gift for learning a foreign language, only people who work at learning a foreign language and believe in themselves. Therefore learning a word of theday in a foreign language not only teaches you a foreign language word, but it also strengthens your motivation and confidence to learn more foreign language words.
