Russian Old believers

Russian Old believers

Russian Old believers are like the Amish of the Russian Orthodox church. The origin of the Old Believers goes back to the 17th century and Russian Orthodox reforms. I will not get into the details of Russian Orthodox theology and the genesis of their split. More interesting is today the Russian Old Believers live in communities, many in the USA in Alaska for example in self sufficient hamlets. They live in the USA as Alaska and even as far as Oregon and California had Russian settlements in the 19th century. Because of the persecution in Russia’s past oppressive historical governments, the USA seems to be their home now. If you every want to go to a time machine and visit what Russian belief and Russian ideas were like several hundred years ago, you do not have to look further than the USA.
