False friends

Every language has something called false friends. These are words that look like an English word you already know but are often not even close.   When I first got to Poland I saw signs for ’stomatolog”   I saw some references to a medical office under these signs.  So I thought this was a doctor to treat stomach problems.   Then I saw many of these signs. Often open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  I though gee  wiz people in Poland must have a lot of stomach problems, maybe from eating too much Kielbasa (which is one of my favorate foods).  Then I asked someone. The word stomatolog is a doctor, but it means dentist.

So in every language you will come meet many false friends. False friends are ussually innocent and after you get a laugh you will will remeber those words the best.
