Increase your IQ, activate passive foreign language vocabulary
Here is a technique that may not increase your IQ, as it claims, but will certainly increase your visual perceptiveness of details and might stimulate creativity by bringing more of your intelligence online. It does this by connecting your language centers with your visual/imaginative centers in your brain. It is a type of Socratic method for learning called image streaming. It has only one study done on it that showed intelligence increases, although impressive, was not statistically robust enough to substantiate anything. That being said, it is an interesting technique and can be applied to foreign language learning once you have reached a certain level. It is what I would call activation of passive knowledge or intelligence. This is very important as many times you know words and have ideas but they are not readily available for use and use. Therefore you use the same language patterns and thoughts over and over again. Even me I know a lot of Polish words but do not use them, why? ‘You get more of what you reinforce’, I am in the habit of speaking with the same words.
In terms of cognitive brain patterns the same applies. I looked back at journal I was keeping when I was a teenager, and compared it to something I wrote recently. You know what, It was basically the same. As much I as tried to be different and creative I could recognizes my thought patterns.
This linguistic image streaming technique might help you change these cognitive brain patterns and activate your passive foreign laguage vocabulary if you do it in your target language, rather than your native language. Imagine streaming in a sense awakens your brain. p.s. It is free.
