“A psychology professor reckons he has found a mathematical explanation for the “learning spurt” children experience while learning language.” read more  Math and languages  It is interesting to note that the average English speaker knows about 50,000 words, but only uses 5,000 to 10,000 on a normal basis.  I think you need about 5,000 to speak a foreign language well.
