Ossetians
Ossetians are Indo European Orthodox Chistians who live in the Caucasus mountain region. Ossetians speak Ossetic of course which is an Indo-European language from the Iranian branch. Ossetic is related languages are the other Iranic languages like Kurdish and Pashto. Kurds are of course in Iraq and Turkey. This whole region which some people argue is close to the Indo-European homeland, is a patch work of people and languages which do not have their own nations. I am a big believe that any group of people that are uniquely different, like the Ossetians do have a right to their only country. As the world gravitates towards free movement of labor and capital nationalism should be transparent. In theory at least.
The Ossetians come from from the Alans, a Sarmatian tribe which began to differentiate about 2 centuries after Christ.
The Huns destroyed the Rich Ossetian kingdom, which grew not on Oil pipelines but the silk route and trade routes from the Middle East. Wat is left of that legacy survives in the region between Georgia and Russia. The Ossetian kingdom was actually further north in the Don river of Russian but the Tartars pushed them to their current location.
During the middle ages some Ossetians immigrated to Eastern Europe.
The total population of the Ossetians is about 700,000 with about 70,000 in the South Ossetia of Georgia.
