Can Pets understand the difference in languages

Do pets know when they are spoken to in another language

If you tell a dog to “sit” and it knows this word through training, the dog will sit. However, if you give the same command to a dog with the same tone and verbal gestures in another language. Often the dog will sit regardless. Experiment at home but in my experience often times dogs listen to how the command is spoken not just the word. I think animals listen to how you say a word
and what you are doing. However, for sure dogs can distinguish between words. Many animals know their names and will not respond if called something else.

So I think there is enough evidence that animals know language, but more than humans they listen and look for non-verbal signals.
