Russian propaganda
Russian propaganda | My favorite sources
I have been a Russian history buff ( and Russian propaganda buff) since I was 14 years old. Why? In the New England prep school where I went, there was no Polish or Ukrainian history courses (because of my family roots, I had interest), but there were a few Russian history and Russian studies programs, as the 1970s was the height of the cold war. And Russian history for me was close enough. At 14 I was an arm chair Pan-Slav. My interest in Russian history absorbed me, reading Russian literature, history and even listening to the Voice of Moscow, on a short wave radio set. I have a 100 yard antenna across our back yard I constructed. Of course I knew it was all Russian propaganda, but for me it was a connection to a culture that fascinated me. It was a strange as Russian propaganda in Soviet realistic art.
Today I think the best sources of Russian propaganda are Pravda.ru and ruvr.ru (both pages conveniently have an English language version of course, so you do not need to learn Russian to read and listen).
If you want to see the world news from a different perspective than strictly CNN and NPR, listen and read these two sources of Russian propaganda still alive today. I think 90% of the things they say on these two sources of news are stretches, but none the less, it is like going to a live media museum, a place where the culture of propaganda, or Russian propaganda still lives.
Further, after listening and reading these sources of Russian propaganda, it will give you a better perspective about our own news. Which in my opinion is nothing neither objective nor fully true.
